So they say, seeing is believing. But how does one determine what is real and what is not? With the influx of sightseers, excursionists, visitors, and travellers and the inevitable chase for the tourist dollar, what we see might be just face value. Authenticity seems to be short-changed in the process of touristification.
By definition, touristification is the process in which a place becomes an object of tourist consumption, thus leading to changes in that place. This project is a photographic study of how touristification developments encroach into existing landscapes and how human activities are introduced to these environments to cater to tourism.
The first series of this project focuses on Lishui, Zhejiang, China.
