Abandonded Gods | Zhou HanShun Photography

Since the beginning of human history, it is human nature to seek answers in the heavens and the spiritually unknown. Yet is it also human nature to discard things that we no longer cherished.

On the beaches along the coastal areas of Singapore, blessed religious statues or idols that were once worshipped and prayed to, are now abandoned or discarded. Some are broken, while others are pristine. It is a common practice to discard these “sacred” objects either under a tree or close to the sea.

This project examines the fragility of religious belief in the modern-day "throwaway" society.
